John Doring

Before the war

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (5, 7, 8). He was 25 years old when he was enlisted (5, 7, 8).

He was a glassb[lower?] when he was enlisted (5, 7, 8).

Description

He was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (5, 7, 8).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 10 March 1863 in the 62nd Pennsylvania (1, 5, 6, 7, 8). He was enlisted for three years, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Captain Jeffries (5, 7, 8). He served in company L (10). He was mustered in by Captain Jefries (5, 7).

He was transferred 10 July 1864 from company L of the 62nd Pennsylvania to the 91st (1, 5, 10). On 21 July 1864, he, and the other members of companies L and M, were assigned to company G (2). On 22 July 1864, they were transferred to company K, following brigade orders to assign them to the smallest company (3, 6). He was then present, as a private (3). He served in company K (1).

On 27 April 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 April 1865 (4, 6).

He mustered out, as a corporal, on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 10).

After the war

On 30 March 1889, he applied successfully from Kentucky for a pension (9, 10).
