Before the war

He was born in March 1838 (6). He was 25 years old when he was enlisted (3, 5 [42 in 1880], 6 [62 in 1900]). He was born in Pennsylvania (5, 6).

During the war

He was drafted on 14 October 1863 (1, 2, 3). He was mustered into service as a private in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 13 October 1863 at Scranton, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3 [14 Oct]). He served as a private in company B of the 118th Pennsylvania (2, 7).

He was captured at Cold Harbor, Virginia, on 2 June 1864 (2).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to company F of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3 [1 June]). He served as a private in company F in the 91st Pennsylvania (1).

He was discharged by general order 77, Adjutant General's Office, on 15 July 1865 (1, 3).

After the war

In 1869/70, he married Mercy Ann [unknown surname] (6). In 1900, she had had seven children, six of whom were alive (6).

In 1880, he was living in Blekeley Borough, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania (5). He was a railroad blacksmith (5). He was living with his wife Mercy Ann, and children (or stepchildren) Eddie, Annie, Freddie, Emory, Miles, and Dayton Doronick (5).

On 15 February 1882, he applied successfully for a pension (4, 7).

In 1900, he was living on Elm Street, in Queens County, New York, New York (6). He was a railroad flagman (6). He was living with his wife Mercy (6).

He died in 1907 (7).

On 16 September 1907, his widow, Mercy A Doud, applied successfully from Connecticut for a pension (4, 7).
