He was enlisted and mustered into service on 15 November 1861 (1, 3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Hall (3). He served as a private in company F (1).

He died of measles, at Camp Stanton, District of Columbia, on 20 February 1862 (1 [19 Feb according to the burial record], 2, 3, 4). He was buried in the Mil. Asylum Cemetery, Washington DC (1).

He had last been paid by Major Campbell, up to 31 December 1861 (2).
