Description

He was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (6, 7).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 12 September 1861 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 6, 7). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr (6). He served as a private in company A (1).

On 22 March 1863, he had returned to duty, from being detached as a teamsters' cook (4).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (8).

On 5 August 1863, he was a cook for Captain Francis Gregory (2).

On 10 December 1863, he was a cook for the company (5).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 26 December 1863, at Bealton, Virginia (1, 7).

On 18 March 1864, he was released from arrest and restored to duty, but the pay for the time he were absent, transportation, and the reward authorized for deserters, along with the cost of any lost property were deducted from his pay (3). (The consolidated morning reports apparently do not report him as a deserter.)

He was absent, sick, when the regiment mustered out (1, 6, 7).
