Description

He was 5 feet 10-1/2 inches tall, and had a light complexion, light eyes, and light hair (8).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 20 August 1861 as a corporal in company A (1, 7, 8, 9). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr (8).

At some point, he was promoted to commissary sergeant (7). At some point, he was reduced to the ranks (7).

On 8 September 1863, Sinex reported that he was in Philadelphia and able to rejoin the regiment, and requested his return (3).

On 26 September 1863, he was reported regained from duty in hospital (5).

On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 38 men who had less than fifteen months to serve and were not willing to reenlist (4). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (6).

He was wounded on 10 May 1864 at Spottsylvania Court House, Virginia (1, 14).

He was discharged on 24 September 1864 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 8, 9 [23 Sep 64], 13).

After the war

He applied successfully for a pension on 18 January 1866 (2, 10).

In 1870, he was living in the 14th ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). He was a carpenter, and owned $100 in personal property (11). He was living with his wife Jane, son Jacob, and May McClintock (11).

In 1880, he was living at 1231 [?] Melon [??] Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was a carpenter (12). He was living with his wife Jenny and two sons (12).

He died on 1 November 1881, of a carbuncle (15). He was married. He died at, or was buried from, 1231 Mellon Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (15). He was buried on 4 November 1881, at Mount Moriah Cemetery (15).

Jane Geisenhoffer, his widow, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (2, 10).

In 1890, his widow, Jane Geisenhoffer, was living at 1231 Melon Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9).
