Description

He was 5 feet 4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (5, 6). He was living in Philadelphia when he was enrolled (6).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 10 December 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5, 6). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Gilbert (5). He served as a private in company A (1, 5).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (7).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer, and was mustered in (apparently) on 26 December 1863, at Bealton, Virginia (1, 6).

On 20 June 1864, he was detailed by General Griffin for duty in the provost guard at division headquarters (2, 4). He was still there in September [?] 1864 (4).

On 27 June 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 May 1865 (1, 3, 6).

He mustered out as a corporal, on 10 July 1865, with his company (1, 6).
