Description

He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a light complexion, grey eyes, and light hair (3).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 23 September 1861 (1, 3, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Smith (3). He served as a private in company A (1).

He was discharged at Alexandria, Virginia, on 29 June 1862 (1) or 28 June 1862 (2), on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3, 5). He was then a private (1, 2).

After the war

He married Emma [unknown surname] (7, 8). In 1900, she had had three children, two of whom were alive (8).

In 1880, he was living at 1224 Ash Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Emma, children Kate, Harriet, and Martin, and mother Charlotta (7). He was a glass blower (7).

On 25 August 1886, he applied successfully for a pension (4).

In 1890, he was living at 1224 Ash, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5, 6). He was a laborer (6). He had suffered a rupture (5). Martin Henhoeffer was also living there (6).

He died on 25 May 1898, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of carcinoma of liver (9). He died at, or was buried from, 1224 Ash Street (9). He was a wharf builder (9). He was buried in Palmer Vault, and apparently later in North Cedar Hill Cemetery (9).

His widow applied successfully for a pension (4).

In 1900, his widow, Emma Henhoeffer, was living at 1224 E Fletcher Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). She was living with her son Martin and daughter-in-law Harriet (8).
