Description

He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He also served in company I of the 52nd Pennsylvania Militia Infantry (6, 7).

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 6 February 1864 (1, 3, 4 [6 Feb 62], 7). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Shipley (3). He was mustered in as a private in company H by Lieutenant Boorke (1, 3).

On 3 July 1864, he and four other men in company H asked their captain, James Closson, to be transferred to a newly forming battalion of sharpshooters (2). Closson passed their request on to the regimental adjutant (2), but none were transferred.

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4, 7).

After the war

In 1890, he was living at 2332 Sharswood Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4, 5). He was a driver (5).

On 17 August 1892, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7).

On 15 February 1907, he again applied for a pension (7).

He died on 25 December 1918, at Quakertown, [Bucks County,] Pennsylvania (7).
