George H Howell

Before the war

He was 26 years old when he enlisted, and was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania (2). When he enlisted, he was a carpenter (2).

Description

He was 5 feet 5-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (3). He enlisted and was mustered into service for three years in the 118th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on 24 July 1863, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3, 5). He served in company K of the 118th Pennsylvania (3, 5).

He was wounded at Peeble's Farm, Virginia, on 30 September 1864 (3).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to company E of the 91st Pennsylvania Infantry (1, 2, 3). He had received an advance bounty of $25, and was due $75 (2). He had drawn $37.58 in clothing since his enlistment (2). He had last been paid, by Major Holman, on 31 December 1864 (2).

He was mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 5).

After the war

On 14 February 1871, he applied successfully for a pension (4, 5).
