Before the war

He was 30 years old when he was enlisted (3). (If I have located the correct death certificate, he was 27, and born in Ireland (5).)

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 11 September 1861 (1, 3). He was enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). He served as a private in company D (1).

He died of "cramp colic", at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 9 or 20 October 1861 (1 [20 Oct], 2 [9 Oct], 3 [20 Oct]). If I have located the correct death certificate, he died on 3 October 1861, of natural causes, and was buried on 5 October 1861, in Odd Fellows' Cemetery.

After the war

On 22 May 1863, his mother, Mary Irvin, applied successfully for a pension (4, 6).
