Augustus A Klar [or Kear]

Before the war

His wife, Lavinia [unknown surname], immigrated to the US in 1852 (6). In 1900, she had had four children, all of whom were alive (6).

When he was enlisted, he was a miller (2).

Description

He was 5 feet 3 inches tall, and had a brown complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He was a substitute (1, 2). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 24 March 1865 (1, 2). He was enlisted for one year, at Norristown, Pennsylvania (2). His enlistment was credited to the sixth congressional district (2). He served as a private in company A (1).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1).

After the war

On 28 April 1870, he died, of phthisis pulmonalis (7). He was a laborer (7). He was married (7). He died at, or was buried from, 467 North 3rd Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). On 1 May 1870, he was buried at Glenwood Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7).

On 28 August 1888, his widow, Lavinia Klar, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (3, 5).

In 1890, his widow, Anna S Klar, was living at 2024 Cleveland Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4).

In 1900, his widow, Lavinia Klar, was living at 2057 York Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). She was living with her daughter Hermina and Hermina's family (6).
