Francis Kerer

Before the war

He was born in France (4, 5 [Alleheny [County] PA]). He was 32 years old when he was enlisted (4, 5).

He was a labor[er] when he was enlisted (4, 5).

Description

He was 5 feet 5-1/2 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair (4, 5).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 4, 5). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 10 or 18 July 1863 in the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry (1 [18 July], 4 [10 July], 5 [10 Jul], 7 [18 Jul]). He was enlisted for three years (4, 5). His service was credited to the 22nd congressional district (4, 5).

He was transferred on 20 July 1864 from company L of the 62nd Pennsylvania to the 91st (1, 7). On 21 July 1864, he, and the other members of companies L and M, were assigned to company G (2). On 22 July 1864, they were transferred to company K, following brigade orders to assign them to the smallest company (3). He was then absent, as a private (3). He served as a private in company K (1).

On 30 April 1865, he was detailed to the 5th Corps provost guard (8).

In June 1865, he was detailed to the provost guard at Corps Headquarters (9).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 7).

After the war

On 12 August 1895, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7).

On 23 February 1907, he again applied for a pension (7).

He died on 18 February 1919, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (7).

On 4 March 1919, his widow, Theresa Kehrer, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7).
