He was drafted (1). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 24 September 1864 (1) or 27 September 1864 (2, 3). He was enlisted for one year, at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (2, 3). His enlistment was credited to the 14th Congressional District (2, 3). He served as a private in company C (1).

He was wounded on 1 April 1865 (1).

He died of wounds received in action (1).

After the war

On 26 June 1865, his widow, Catharine Knox, successfully applied for a pension (4, 5).
