During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 10 September 1863, in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry (1, 3, 4). He served in company K of the 118th Pennsylvania (3, 4). He was enlisted for one year, at Norristown, Pennsylvania (4). His service was credited to the Sixth Congressional District (4).

He was wounded at Cold Harbor, Virginia, on 3 June 1864 (3).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4). He served in company G of the 91st Pennsylvania (1).

On 3 July 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 July 1865 (1, 2).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1).
