He immigrated to the US in 1847 (8, 9 had 1859).

In 1863 or 1864, he married Margaret [unknown surname] (8, 9). In 1900, she had had eight children, four of whom were alive (8). In 1910, she reported having had six children, three of whom were alive (9).

When he was enlisted, he was a cordwainer (3).

Description

He was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 26 February 1864 (1, 3, 4, 6). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Snyder (3). He served as a private in company A (1).

On 1 February 1865, he went on a furlough, which ended on 11th February 1865 (2).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4, 6).

After the war

In 1880, he was living at 1 Browery Place, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Margaret and children Mary, Robert, and Agnes (7). He was a boltmaker (7).

In 1890, he was living at 744 South 12th Street, Philadelphia Pennsylvania (5, 6). He was a boltmaker (6). Also living at that address were Robert Legg (lithographer), Arthur B Melville (clerk), and Clarence Tricker (salesman) (5).

He applied successfully for a pension on 7 March [?] 1898 (4).

In 1900, he was living at 817 North 15th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Margaret, and children Robert, Edith, Mary, and Frank (8). He was a stationary engineer (8). He was a naturalized citizen (8).

He applied again for a pension on 15 [illegible month] 190 [last digit illegible] (4).

In 1910, he was living at 1623 Parrish Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Margaret and daughter Edith (9). He was a boltmaker, in a factory (9).

He died on 23 April 1918, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4).
