Description

He was 5 feet 10-1/2 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, blue eyes, and black hair (4).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He was enlisted and mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 12 November 1863 (1, 3, 4, 5). He served in company K of the 118th Pennsylvania (3, 4, 8). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). His service was credited to the Second Congressional District (4).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from company K of the 118th Pennsylvania (1, 4 [1 Jun 65]). He served in company G of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 5).

On 3 July 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 July 1865 (1, 2, 8).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4, 8). He was then a corporal (1, 4).

After the war

In 1867/68, he was married (12).

In 1870, he was living in the 15th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Rachael and with Ada (presumably their daughter) (9). He worked in a blacksmithy (9).

In 1880, he was living at 2223 Callowhill Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Rachel, children WK, SB, and Gertrude, and three other relatives (10). He was a blacksmith (10).

In 1890, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, probably at 2225 Callowhill Street (4, 5). He was probably a blacksmith (5).

On 3 November 1898, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 8).

In 1900, he was living at 2705 Brown Street, 15th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). He was a boarder (11). He was divorced [?] (11). He was a blacksmith (11).

In 1910, he was living at 635 North 47th Street, 44th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his mother Rebecca Kissick, and sister Annie Caskey (12). He was a blacksmith--machine (12).

In 1920, he was living at 128 North 52nd Street, 44th ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (13). He was a lodger (13). He was widowed (13). He was a laborer at a department store (13).

On 27 February 1907, he again applied for a pension (8).

He died on 15 November 1925, at Lansdowne, [Delaware County,] Pennsylvania (8).
