George Lathrop

Before the war

He was 18 years old when he was enlisted (3, 5 [20 in 1860]). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3, 5).

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (3). He was living in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, when he was enlisted (3).

Description

He was 5 feet 3-1/2 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair (3).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 14 January 1865 (1, 3). He was enlisted at Norristown, Pennsylvania (3). He was mustered in as a private, at Norristown, Pennsylvania (3). He served as a private, either in company E (1, 3) or without having been assigned (2).

He was not on the muster-out roll (1). He was discharged on 6 June 1865, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3--handwritten on the typed card).

He also served in company K of the 197th Pennsylvania, and in company I of the 11th and company E of the 29th US Infantry (2, 4, 6).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Marion County, Texas (5). He was a millwright (5). He was living with his wife Mattie (5).

He applied successfully for a pension from Texas on 8 August 1890 (2, 4, 6).

He died on 30 January 1913 (6).

On 19 March 1910, his widow, Mattie J Lathrop, applied successfully from Texas for a pension (2, 4, 6).
