One letter claims he was transfered to the 91st from the 47th Pennsylvania Infantry on that date, and that he had enlisted in the state service at Easton Pennsylvania on 18 August 1861, and in the US service at Camp Curtin, near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on 15 September 1861 (2).
He deserted at Mayersville, Virginia, on 30 June 1863, while on the march to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (3).
According to the plaque on the Pennsylvania Memorial at Gettysburg, he fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (8).
On 11 March 1864, he was reported returned from desertion (6).
According to the 9 October 1864 consolidated morning report, Linkerman was discharged when his term expired (7). I suspect this was an error overlooking the time he was absent because he had deserted.
He mustered out at Bealton, Virginia, on 1 or 15 March 1865 when his term expired (1 [15 Mar], 4 [1 Mar], 5 [15 Mar]).
