Rudolph Maidel or Maidre

Before the war

He was 19 years old when he enlisted (4). He was born in Saxon, Germany (4).

He was a case maker (4).

Description

He was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a light complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair (4).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 14 September 1861 (4) [or 14 September 1862 (1)]. He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr (4). He served as a private in company A (1).

He was killed on 3 May 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia (1, 3, 4). He was then a private (1, 3).

He was reported missing in action on 7 May 1863 (2).

After the war

On 22 July 1864, his mother, Augusta Maedel, successfully applied for a pension (5, 6).

In 1870, Augustia Maidel (presumably his mother) was living in ward 1, Washington, DC (7). She was living with Adolphus and Caroline Maidel and others (7).

In 1880, Agusta Madle (presumably his mother) was living at 107 E Street, Washington, DC (8). She was living with her daughter Katie and Katie's family, and with two other children (8).
