James Manniess

Name

Bates (1) has Manniess, but the descriptive roll (2) has Maniees, and (3) has Manies.

Before the war

He was 44 years old when he enlisted (2). He was born in Fermana Ireland (2). He was a gardener (2).

Description

He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, had a light complexion, blue eyes, and grey hair (2).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service in company K on 14 October 1861 (1, 2: Bates (1) has 1864, but also has him mustering out in 1862). (According to the company E descriptive roll, he was enlisted and mustered into service by Captain Lentz, which doesn't match Bates--perhaps this is a mistaken reconstruction of his enlistment.)

He was transferred on 24 December 1861 to company E (1, 4).

He was discharged on 10 June 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability, at Washington, DC (1, 3).
