During the war

He was a substitute (1, 2, 3). He was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 24 September 1863 (1, 2, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Pottsville, Pennsylvania, by Captain Tower (3). He was mustered in company I of the 118th Pennsylvania (2).

He was captured (2).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania (1). He served as a private in company H of the 91st (1).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 4).

After the war

On 16 August 1865, he applied unsuccessfully for a pension (4).
