Samuel (or Daniel) A Mock

Before the war

He was born on 15 March 1844, to Samuel Mock and Barbara Almsbaugh (or Amsbaugh) (8, 9). He was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania (3, 7, 8, 10, 11). He was 20 years old when he was enlisted (3, 4, 7 [36 in 1880], 8 [56 in 1900], 10 [66 in 1910], 11 [75 in 1920]).

He was a laborer when he was enlisted (3).

Description

He was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). His service was credited to the sixteenth congressional district (3). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 21 September 1864 (1, 4, 12). He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (3). He was mustered in, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, as a private in company I (1, 4).

He was discharged by general order on 30 or 31 May 1865 (1, 2 [31 May], 3 [31 May], 4 [30 May], 12 [30 May]).

After the war

In 1873/74, he married Martha Harbaugh (8, 9, 10). She was apparently his second wife (10). They had five children, four of whom were alive in 1900 and 1910 (8, 9, 10).

In 1880, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (7). He was a farmer, and had been unemployed for 0 months (7). He was living with his wife Martha, and children HOward, Charles, and Charlotte (7).

In 1890, he was living in Union Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (post office Lovely) (5). He was partially deaf (5).

On 19 August 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 12).

In 1900, he was living in Lincoln Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (8). He was a farmer (8). He was living with his wife Martha, and children Charles, Charlotte, and Elbert (8).

In 1910, he was living in Lincoln Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Martha and children Lottie and Clayton (10). He was a farm laborer (10).

In 1920, he was living in Lincoln Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his wife Martha and children Lottie and Clayton (11). He was not working (11).

He died on 5 February 1923, at Alum Bank, [Bedford County,] Pennsylvania (9, 12). He was buried at Mount Union Cemetery, Spruce Hollow, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (9). He was in the GAR (9).

On 23 [?] February 1923 [?], his widow, Martha J Mock, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6).

Martha J Mock died on 26 September 1930 (9).
