Before the war

He was born in Birmingham, Pennsylvania (4, 5 [Brigham], 8). He was 19 years old when he was enlisted (4, 5, 8 [61 in 1910]).

He was a laborer when he was enlisted (4, 5).

Description

He was 5 feet 3 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (4, 5).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 25 February 1864 in the 62nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1, 4, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Captain Wright (4, 5). He was mustered in by Captain Howe (4, 5).

He was transferred on 20 July 1864 from company L of the 62nd Pennsylvania to the 91st (1, 7). On 21 July 1864, he, and the other members of companies L and M, were assigned to company G (2). On 22 July 1864, they were transferred to company K, following brigade orders to assign them to the smallest company (3). He was then present as a private (3). He served as a private in company K (1).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 7).

After the war

On 27 October 1904, he applied successfully from Illinois for a pension (6, 7).

He again applied for a pension on 27 October 1904 (7).

In 1910, he was living in the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, in Danville Township, Vermillion County, Illinois (9). He was single (9). He was not working (9).

He died on 29 January 1916, at Danville, Illinois (7).
