During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 4 February 1864 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Burke (3, 4). He served as a private in company C (1).

He was reported gained from desertion on 2 May 1864 (5).

He was killed in action by a musket ball at North Anna River, Virginia, on 20 May 1864 or 23 May 1864 (1 [20 May], 2, 3 [23 May], 4 [23 May], 6, 7). His body was left on the field (2). He was buried on 23 May 1864 at National Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, section C, division 3, grave 185 (1).

After the war

On 8 August 1878, his sister applied unsuccessfully for a pension (8).
