He was 19 years old when he enlisted in 1861 (4, 5). The Henry Muckafuse in the 1880 census was 45 years old, and had been born in Pennsylvania (2).
He was 5 foot 2-1/4" tall, and had a light complexion, gray eyes, and light hair (5).
He was a laborer (5).
He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 30 September 1861 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 4, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Dye (4). He served as a private in company A (1).
On 4 October 1861, he was transferred to the 108th Pennsylvania Volunteers, also known as the Eleventh Pennsylvania Cavalry (1, 3, 4, 5). (The Eleventh Pennsylvania Cavalry was also known as Harlan's Iowa Cavalry, according to the Official Army Register.) This was on the order of Major Samuel Wetherill, because he had "deserted from the cavalry" (3, 4). (Major Samuel Wetherell, of the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry, mustered out when his term expired on 30 September 1864, according to the Official Army Register.) Perhaps he was the Adol[ph?] Muckenfuss who enlisted in the 108th Pennsylvania on 19 September 1861, and deserted on 29 September 1861.
In 1880, a Henry Muckafuse was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2). He was a laborer (2). He was living with his wife, Sallie Muckafuse, who was 32 years old, and had been born in Pennsylvania (2). Living with them was also his son, Harry Muckafuse, who was 14, born in Pennsylvania, and worked at a rolling mill (2).

[I did not find a Henry Muckafuse in the 108th PA in Bates. There is an "Adol Muckenfuss", who was mustered into service on 19 September 1861, and deserted on 29 September 1861.]
