During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 9 January 1862 (1, 5). He was enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He served as a private in company D (1).

He was discharged at Washington, DC, on surgeon's certificate of disability on 21 or 27 November 1862 (1 [27 Nov], 4 [21 Nov], 5 [21 Nov]).

After the war

He applied unsuccessfully for a pension on 2 January 1863 (3, 6).

On 26 December 1863, he died, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of phthisis (2, 8). He was single (8). He was a varnisher (8). He died at, or was buried from 1505 Carlton Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 98). On 31 December 1863, he was buried in Philadelphia National Cemetery (2 [Philadelphia National Cemetery], 8 [Odd Fellows Cemetery]).

His mother, Mary Ogden, applied successfully for a pension on 17 November 1865 (3, 6).
