Description

He was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (6, 8 [6', dark complexion, blue eyes, light hair]).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 20 November 1861 (1, 6, 7 [6 Sep], 8, 17 [Sep], 18). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by C L Zinn (6, 8). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He served as a private, initially in company B (1). He had gun number 40 (8).

He was transferred to company K (1).

He was transferred on 24 December 1861 to company H (1, 9, 18).

On 28 July 1863, he was reported as having been dropped because he was missing in the campaign (probably after 11 June 1863) (4). He had returned by 30 July 1863 (5).

On 8 September 1863, Sinex reported that he was in Philadelphia and able to rejoin the regiment, and requested his return (2).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 30 March 1864, at Warrenton, Virginia (1, 6).

He was wounded on 14 May 1864 at Spottsylvania Court House, Virginia (1, 14).

On 31 May 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 31 May (3). He was promoted on 1 June 1865 to corporal (1, 6).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 6, 7 [7 Jul], 17 [6 Jul]). He had served for fifty months (11, 13, 15, 16).

After the war

He applied successfully for a pension on 13 July 1865 (12, 17, 18).

He was admitted to the National Home on 24 April 1885 (10, 11, 13, 15, 16 [25 Apr 85]). He was admitted from Pennsylvania (13, 15, 16). He had a wounded right arm, and was receiving a pension of $6 per month (10, 11, 13, 15).

In 1885, he was living in the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Southern Branch (10).

On 1 December 1885, he was discharged from the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (11).

In 1890, he was living in the National Soldiers Home, Southern Branch, in Elizabeth City County, Virginia (7, 15). He had wounds in his left arm, right hand, and hip (7, 15 [wound right arm]). He was receiving a pension of $6 per month (15).

On 12 April 1893, he was discharged from the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (13). He was receiving a pension of $10 per month (13).

In 1899, he was present in the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (16). He was receiving a pension of $10 per month (16). He had a wound in his arm (16).

He again applied for a pension on 23 February 1907 (17, 18).

He died on 14 January 1914, at the National Soldiers' Home in Virginia (17).
