Frederick E Rhoads

Before the war

He was born in February 1843 (7). He was 23 years old when he enlisted in 1864 (2, 6 [38 in 1880]). He was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania (2, 6, 7).

He married Barbara [unknown surname] in 1861/62 (7). She (and presumably they) had thirteen children, ten of whom were living in 1900 (7).

When he was enlisted, he was a miller (2).

Description

He was 5 feet 8-3/8 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 8 January 1864 (1) or 18 January 1864 (2, 5 [18 June 1863]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Stretch (2). He served as a private in company A (1).

On 6 September 1864, he returned to the regiment from being absent in arrest (9). He may have been in arrest since 9 June 1864 or earlier (10).

He was wounded on 30 September 1864 at Peeble's Farm, Virginia (1).

He was discharged by general order on 22 June 1865 (1, 5).

After the war

He had moved to Missouri by 1868, when his daughter Barbara was born in Missouri (6).

On 28 April 1880, he applied successfully for a pension (3).

In 1880, he was living in Briton Township, Washington County, Missouri (6). He was a teamster (6). He was living with his wife Emma [?], and his children Barbara, William George, Charles, Agnes, Sarah, and Minnie (6).

In 1890, he was living in Brinton City, Audrain County, Missouri (5).

In 1900, he was living in Loutra Township, Audrain County, Missouri (7). He was a farmer (7). He was living with his wife Barbara and children Minnie, Julia, and Harry (7).

He died on 3 November 1902 (3).

His widow applied successfully for a pension (3).

In 1910, his widow was living in Loutra Township, Audrain County, Missouri (8).

In 1920, his widow, Barbara Rhoades, was living in Loutre Township, Audrain County, Missouri (11).
