During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 10 September 1861 (1, 4, 5). He was probably transferred from another company to company H (3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Charles Brown (4, 5). He was mustered in as a sergeant in company H, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 5).

He deserted on 1 December 1861, from Camp Chase (1, 2, 4, 5 [25 Oct]). He was then a sergeant (1, 2).
