Description

He was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a ruddy complexion, blue eyes, and sandy hair (4).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 20 February 1864 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant H H Shipley (3, 4). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Snyder (3, 4). He served as a private in company D (1).

He died of disease, near Warrenton Junction, Virginia, on 2 April 1864 or 10 April 1864 (1 [10 Apr], 2 [2 Apr], 3 [10 Apr], 4 [2 Apr], 6). He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery (6).

After the war

On 10 October 1864, his widow, Margaret Borlan, successfully applied for a pension (7, 8).

In 1870, Margaret Borlan (presumably his widow) was living in ward 7, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). She was keeping house (9).
