William Rookstool

Before the war

He was born in May 1845 (12). He was 18 years old when he was enlisted (6, 7 [20 probably in 1863], 9 [25 in 1870], 10 [34 in 1880], 12 [55 in 1900], 13 [64 in 1910]). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6, 7, 9, 10).

He was a printer when he was enlisted (6, 7).

Description

He was 5 feet 2-3/4 inches tall, and had a light complexion, grey eyes, and chestnut hair (6, 7 [5'4", brown hair]).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 20 November 1861 (1, 6, 7, 8 [24 Nov]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Hall (6, 7). He served as a private in company G (1).

On 10 August 1863, he returned to his company (3).

On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 38 men who had less than fifteen months to serve who were unwilling to reenlist (2). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (4).

He was wounded on 21 June 1864 (1).

He mustered out on 20 November 1864, when his term expired (1, 5, 8 [24 Nov], 11).

After the war

In 1869/1870, he married Georgiana [unknown surname] (13). In 1900, they had had no children (13).

In 1870, he was living in Travis County, Texas (9). He was a private, in the US Army (9).

In 1880, he was living at rear 810 Enquirer Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his mother and two siblings (10). He was in the army (10).

In 1890, he was living at West Point Military Academy, Orange County, New York (8). (Was he serving in the military?)

In 1900, he was living at 1713 Diamond Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with his wife Georgiana (12). He was a butcher (12). They had been married for thirty years, and she had had no children (12).

In 1910, he was living at 1713 Diamond Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with his wife Georgiana and a servant (13). He was living on his own income (13).
