Description

He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 2). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 15 March 1865 (1, 2, 3 [16 Mar]). He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lloyd (2). He reported for duty on 15 March 1865 (2). His service was credited to the seventeenth congressional district (2). He served as a private in company D (1).

He was absent, in arrest, when the regiment mustered out (1, 3 [discharged 10 Jul]).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife RosAnna, and children Mary, Sarah, James, William, and George (7). He was a farmer, and owned $3,500 in real estate, and $800 in personal property (7).

On 21 July 1880, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 5).

In 1880, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Rosanna, and children Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, David, Martha, James, William, and Susan (8). He was a farmer (8).

In 1890, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (post office: Shybeaver) (3). He had had rheumatism and lung disease (3).

In 1900, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Rosan, and children James and Alice (10). He was a farmer (10).

On 15 [?] April 1909, his widow, Rosan Russell, applied successfully for a pension (4, 5).
