When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 3-1/2 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (4).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 4 November 1861 (1, 4, 10). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Parsons (4). He was a private in company F (1, 11 (drummer)).

He was discharged at Washington DC on 12 April 1863 (?) on surgeon's certificate of disability (1 [has 12 April 1862], 2 [no date], 3 [12 Apr 63], 4 [12 Apr 63 (?)], 10 [6 Apr 63]). He was a private in company F (11).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in ward 1, Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Julia, and (his presumed son) Albert (6). He was a paper hanger, and owned $200 in personal property (6).

In 1880, he was living at 2026 Ritter Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Julia (7). He was a paper hanger, and had been out of work for nine months in the last year (7). He had consumption (7).

He died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 9 June 1880, of consumption of the lungs (5, 9, 10). The funeral was held on 12 June 1880, from 2026 Ritter Street (his residence) (5). The services were held at Summerfield Methodist Episcopal Church (5). He was buried in Cumberland Street Methodist Episcopal Church Vault (5) or North Cedar Hill (9).

On 31 August 1911, his widow, Julia H Rutter, applied unsuccessfully for a pension (8, 10).

RUTTER.--On the 9th instant, ALBERT A. RUTTER, in the thirty fourth year of his age.

The relatives and friends of the family, Improvement Lodge, No. 344, I.O.O.F., and Welcome Division, No. 29, S. of T., are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, this afternoon, at 2 1/2 o'clock, from his late residence, No. 2026 Ritter street. Services at Summerfield M.E. Church, at 3 1/2 P.M. To proceed to Cumberland Street M.E. Church Vault.
