The pension index card refers to Harry Sassman, who served in company G of the 213th Pennsylvania Infantry (7).

He was drafted (1, 3, 4). He was mustered into service as a private in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry, on 17 July 1863 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4, 5 [10 Sep 63]). He served in company D of the 118th Pennsylvania (3, 7).

He was captured at Wilderness, Virginia, on 8 May 1864 (3).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to company F of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4 [1 Jun 65]). He served as a private in company F of the 91st Pennsylvania (1).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 5 [13 Jul 65]).

After the war

In 1890, he was living at 2009 Susquehanna Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5).

On 13 May 1907, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7).

On 7 October 1912, he died, of pulmonary tuberculosis, at Rockledge, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (2, 7, 8). He was an undertaker (8). He last lived at 20 Jarrett Avenue, Rockledge, Pennsylvania (8). On 12 October 1912, he was buried in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania (2, 8). He was buried from 2011 East Susquehanna Avenue, Pennsylvania (8).

On 19 October 1912, his widow, Emma R Seher, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 7).
