In 1849/50, he immigrated to the United States (6). He was a naturalized citizen by 1900 (6).

Description

He was 5 feet 4 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (2).

During the war

He also served in company G of the 14th United States Infantry (3,4).

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 14 July 1864 (1, 2, 3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2). He served as a private in company A (1).

He apparently joined the regiment in February 1865 (5).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3).

After the war

On 5 November 1890, he applied successfully from Arizona for a pension (3, 4). He again applied on 28 August 1907 (3).

In 1891/1892, he married Sophia [unknown surname] (6). In 1900, she had had four children, three of whom were alive (6).

In 1900, he was living in Gila County, Arizona (6). He was living with his wife Sophia, his stepchildren Walter and James [?] Francis, and his son John W Sessler (6).
