Description

He was 5 feet 6 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (4).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 26 or 27 November 1861 (1, 4 [27 Nov]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Parsons (4). He initially served in company G (1). He served as a private (1).

He was transferred on 4 December 1861 to company A (1, 6).

He was discharged at camp near Falmouth, Virginia, on 21 March 1863, on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3, 4). He was then a private (1, 3).

After the war

On 28 October 1867, his mother, Anna Simpson, applied successfully for a pension (5, 7).
