Before the war

He was 43 or 44 years old when he enlisted (2 [43], 6 [44], 12 [56 at death in 1870]). He was born in New Castle, Delaware (2, 6, 12 [NJ]).

When he enlisted, he was a carpenter (2, 6).

Description

He was 5 feet 6-3/4 inches tall, had a dark complexion, brown eyes, and grey hair (2 [dark complexion, brown eyes, grey hair], 6 [light complexion, hazel eyes, grey hair]).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service for three years on 20 August 1861 (1, 2, 6). He was enlisted for three years, by Captain Lentz, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2, 6). He was mustered into service at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Colonel Reiff (2). He initially served in company E (1, 11, 13).

He was present on the 9 September and 31 October 1861 muster rolls (7).

He was transferred on 31 December 1861 to company D, by regimental order, because company E was over the maximum (1, 2, 3, 7, 13). The muster rolls also indicate that he was promoted (7).

On the January/February, March/April, and May/June 1862 muster rolls, he was present (7). He was detailed as superintendent of contrabands on 19 May 1862 (7).

On the July/August 1862 muster roll, he was present (7). On the September/October 1862, he was detailed in the brigade commissary (7). He continued to be marked present until the July/August 1863 muster roll, when he was detailed as a hospital nurse (7).

He was discharged at Camp near Beverly Ford, Virginia, on 10 September 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 4, 5 [by Maj Genl Sykes]).

After the war

He died on 5 May or 27 June 1870, in the Medical Ward, at the Blockley Alms House, of exhaustion following phlebitis (7 [5 May 1870], 12 [27 June 70]). He was buried on 29 June 1870 (12).

On 10 April 1873, his widow, Elizabeth C Sinex, applied unsuccessfully for a pension (8, 11, 13).

In 1880, his widow, Elizabeth Sinnex, was living in Tinicum Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania (10). She was living with her daughter Kate Carson and Kate's husband William (10).

On 6 September 1881, his widow, Elizabeth C Sinex, died (9). The funeral was held from Maiden Lane above Long Lane, the residence of her son-in-law George W Dillmore (9). The service and interment were held at Trinity Lutheran Church (9).

SINEX.--On the 6th instant, ELIZABETH C., widow of the late Robert H. Sinex, aged sixty-six years.

The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, this afternoon, at 3 o'clock, from the residence of her son-in-law, George W. Dillmore, Maiden lane, above Long lane. To proceed to Trinity Lutheran Church for services and interment.
