He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Casner (5, 7). He was mustered in as a private in company H, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant George Murphy (1, 5, 7).

He was transferred on 4 December 1861 to company K (1, 5).

He was transferred on 30 July 1863 to the Veterans' Reserve Corps (1, 3, 5, 6).
