During the war

He was drafted from Cheltenham (1, 3). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 2 March 1865 (1, 3). He was enlisted for one year, at Norristown, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yerkes (3). His service was credited to the Sixth Congressional District (3). He served as a private in company G (1).

He received clothing worth $36.82 (3).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1).

After the war

He applied for membership in Ellis Post 6, Germantown, of the Grand Army of the Republic (2).

In 1870, he was living in ward 22, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was a polisher of edge tools, and owned $2,000 in real estate (5). He was living with his wife Amanda and son David (5).

In 1880, he was living at 147 Lehman Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was a laborer (6). He was living with his wife Amanda and children David and Eddie (6).

He died on 26 October 1899, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of transverse myelitis (9). He died at, or was buried from, 5374 Morris Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was married. On 29 October 1899, he was buried at Ivy Hill Cemetery (9).

On 3 June 1908, his widow, Amanda Stakes, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 8).

In 1910, his widow, Amanda Stakes, was living at 5374 Morris Street, ward 22, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7).
