I have placed several bits of information about a Charles Thompson here, because they do not match the one Charles Thompson in Bates. Whether they belong together is unclear.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was 40 years old when he was enlisted (5).
He was a clerk when he was enlisted (5).
He was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, gray eyes, and light hair (5).
He was enlisted on 15 September 1862 (5). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Gregory (5).
He went on furlough on 3 April 1863 (2). He returned some time between 12 and 24 April 1863 (3).
Sinex wrote a letter on 8 September 1863 that mentions a 'Charles Thompson' (1). According to this letter, he was at Camp Convalescent, Alexandria, Virginia, on 8 September 1863, when Lieutenant Colonel Sinex asked for his return (1). He had been sent by General Tyler to Appnia Creek to guard his private Baggage on 16 May, and had not yet returned to the regiment (1).
On 29 June 1864, the regiment report "Pri Thompson" transferred to the Veterans' reserve corps (4).
