He was 29 years old when he was enlisted (4, 5, 7 [30 at death in 1863]). He was born in Tyrone County, Ireland (4, 5, 7).
He was a weaver when he was enlisted (4).
He was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair (4, 5 [5'5-1/2", dark complexion, grey eyes, dark hair]).
He was enlisted and mustered into service on 18 September 1861 (1, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Smith (4, 5 [Chas L Burr [??]). He served initially as a private in company H (1).
He was transferred to company G (1). (The company H descriptive roll seems to claim that he was first mustered into company G, and later sent back to them--but the line is very light (5).)
He died of disease--inflammation of bowels--in hospital, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 11 August 1863 (1, 2 [16 Sep 63], 3 [11 Aug], 4 [11 Aug], 7 [11 Aug]). He died at, or was buried from, 1415 Savery Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was buried on 13 August 1863, at Franklin Cemetery (7).
On 30 September 1863, his widow, Jane Trotter, applied unsuccessfully for a pension (6, 8).
