During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 27 September 1861 (1, 2, 4). He was enlisted at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). He was mustered in as a private, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). He served as a private in company D (1, 2).

He was discharged at Alexandria Virginia, on 24 March 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3 [medical board], 4). He had been paid through 28 February 1862 (2). On 4 May 1862, he received $29.55, which was the balance owed him for pay from 1 March through 4 May, and subsistence for his return to Philadelphia, less the money he owed for one cap and one pair of pants (2).
