He was wounded on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, Virginia (1, 8, 11).
On 8 September 1863, he was in Washington, DC--perhaps in Haremont Hospital (2).
On 26 September 1863, he was reported returned from hospital for duty (6).
He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 24 December 1863, at Bealton, Virginia (1, 8, 9 [25 Dec], 11 [25 Dec]). He was enlisted for three years by Lieutenant Carpenter, and mustered by Lieutenant Swan (9, 11).

He seems not to have been charged for missing equipment, perhaps when the regiment mustered out (10).
He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 8).
He successfully applied for a pension (12).
On 13 January 1880, he died, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of paralysis (14, 15). The funeral was on 16 January, from 2713 Brown Street (the home of his son-in-law James Burnside) (14, 15). He was buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery (14, 15).
On 9 February 1890, Martha Wallace, his widow, successfully applied for a pension (12, 13).
