During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 20 November 1861 (1, 6). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant (?) Black (6). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1). He had rifle number 103 (6).

He was declared absent without leave on 2 April 1863 (2). He may have returned on 3 April 1863 (3).

He deserted on 27 April 1863, while on the march to Chancellorsville, Virginia (1, 4, 5, 6 [29 Apr]). He was officially dropped as a deserter on 1 June 1863 (4).
