He was 5 feet 4-1/2 inches tall, and had a grey complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania on 2 August 1862 (1, 3 [31 [illegible, perhaps July] 1862]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Saunders (3).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 2). He served as a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania (1).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3).
