He was 19 years old when he enlisted in 1861 (8, 9). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8).
He was a manufact[urer] (8, 9 [businessman]). He was living in Philadelphia when he was enrolled (9).
He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and light hair (8 [dark complexion, dark eyes, light hair], 9 [light complexion, dark eyes, dark hair]).
He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private on 23 August 1861 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 8, 9). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr (8). He served as a private in company A (1).
He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (13).
On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 38 men who had less than fifteen months to serve who were unwilling to reenlist (3). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (6). However, on 3 January 1864, he returned to his company from being transferred (7). I assume he changed his mind at the last moment.
He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 31 December 1863, at Bealton, Virginia (1, 9).
He was with Thomas Walter on 20 June 1864 when Walter was shot (2).
He was promoted to corporal on 11 October 1864 (4, 12).
But he was reduced to the ranks on 29 November 1864, because of disobedience of orders (5).
He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 9).
On 15 July 1890, he successfully applied for a pension (10, 11).
He died on 27 August 1894 (10).
On 5 February 1913, his widow, Jennie Wood, unsuccessfully applied from New Jersey for a pension (10, 11).

[I have found an Edward and Jennie Wood living in Atlantic City--but in the 1900 and 1910 censuses!! I do not know whether the death date on the pension card is wrong, or whether those are the wrong Wood's. The long gap between the death date and her pension application might support the former interpretation; getting the pension application might help sort this out.
