Samuel Worl

Before the war

He was born to George and Margaret [?] Worl (7). He may be the son of George Worl and Rebecca Volk (8). After Rebecca's death, George married Sarah Thomas, and had five sons, including George M Worl, who is buried in the same family plot as Samuel Worl (8). When he enlisted, he was 43 years old (3, 7 [57 at death in 1867]). He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3, 7).

He was a coop[er] (3).

Description

He was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and grey hair (3).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 16 September 1862 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Gregory (3, 4). He served as a private in company C (1).

He was discharged at Falmouth [?] Virginia [?] on 18 January 1863 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 3, 4).

After the war

He died on 19 September 1867, of consumption (6, 7). He was then a cooper (7). He died at, or was buried from, 9 Curren [?] Court [?], Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery (7).

On 14 February 1883, his widow, Mary S Worl, successfully applied for a pension (5, 6).

Mary Worl died on 8 June 1911 (9). She was buried at Mt Peace (9).
