During the war

He was drafted (1, 2). He was mustered into service as a private in the 118th Pennsylvania on 24 July 1863 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 2). He served in company B of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry (4).

He was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to the 91st Pennsylvania on 1 June 1865 (1, 2). He served as a private in company F of the 91st Pennsylvania (1).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 2).

After the war

In 1880, he was living on 28th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his sister Anna (6). He was a tinsmith (6).

On 17 December 1887, he died, of phthisis pulmonalis (4, 5). He was married (5). He was a tin cutter (5). He died at, or was buried from, 2118 Ridge Avenue (5). On 20 December 1887, he was buried, at Fernwood Cemetery (5).

On 25 September 1890, his widow, Catharine A Young, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (3, 4).
