Jim George's Story:

I remained in the Army and retired as colonel more than eight years ago. I initially commanded Alpha company, was wounded, evacuated and returned to 2/28 and fortunate to then take command of Bravo company in time for the Tet Offensive. I turned over command of Bravo Company in July 68, went to the Infantry Officer's Advance Course, Pathfinder School, and then the Army sent me to graduate school. I returned to VN for a second tour in 71-72. Although I volunteered to go to an American unit as company commander, I was assigned as assistant editor in chief of Pacific Stars and Stripes due to the graduate degree.

I currently do some work as a consultant working with the Army. I have a vested interest since both of our sons are Majors in the Army.

Captain James D. George was awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions during the battle of Ong Thanh.
