Pte. - Private Spr. - Sapper Sgt. - Sergeant
MEDICAL ABBREVIATIONS
GSW - Gun shot wound TB - Tuberculosis SW - Severe Wound
 
DEFINITIONS OF DISABILITIES
Acute Coryza - An acute upper respiratory infection
Adenitis - Inflammation of a gland or lymph node
Albuminuria - The presence of protein, usually albumin but at times globulin, in the urine, indicating either dysfunction or disease. Also called proteinuria
Anophthalmos - Disease of eye & eye lids
Cacheyia - probably cachexia. General ill health and malnutrition, marked by weakness and emaciation, usually associated with severe disease, such as tuberculosis or cancer
Debility - Condition of weakness
Drop Foot or Foot Drop - Paralysis or weakness of the dorsiflexor muscles of the foot and ankle, resulting in dragging of the foot and toes
Dyspnoea - Difficulty in breathing
Empyema - A collection of pus in a cavity
Kyphosis - An excessive backward curvature of the dorsal spine
Lumbago - Pain in the lower, or lumbar, region of the back or loins, esp. chronic or recurring pain
Myalgia - Pain in the muscles
Nephritis - Inflammation of the kidneys
Neurasthenia - A nervous condition
Neuritis - Inflammation of a nerve
Phthsis - Pulmonary tuberculosis; consumption
Quinsy - Infection of the head & neck region
Renal Calculi (aka Kidney stone) - an abnormal stone, or concretion, composed primarily of oxalates and phosphates, found in the kidney
Rheumatic Fever - (aka RF) is an illness which arises as a complication of untreated or inadequately treated strep throat infection which can seriously damage the valves of the heart.
Scabies - Highly contagious parasitic skin disease
Sciatica - Pain in the line of the sciatic nerve- buttock, back of thigh, foot
Sclerosis - Abnormal hardening of a tissue
